The Gemini Sector, repainted

Every concourse, bar and trading floor has been repainted at modern resolution, so the places you land between jumps feel lived in again.

Fly any ship you see

Every ship in the Gemini Sector is one you can fly, from a merchant's Tarsus to a Kilrathi capital ship, each rebuilt as a new 3D model. Every shot here was staged in the game.

The story you remember, retold

The original campaign is back, with new cinematics and a cast you can actually see. Haul cargo, take mercenary contracts, hunt bounties, or follow the trail of a strange alien artifact. The bars are busy again, and someone always has a job for you.

Install in four steps

  1. Download the launcher

It's a 3 MB installer. It doesn't need administrator rights.

  2. Open it

Windows may show "Windows protected your PC", because the launcher isn't code-signed yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

To check your download, its SHA-256 is a203ec06ae143563325518a68e04df7b478e163975834eadf3f5511ce35368d6

  3. Show it your Privateer

The launcher finds GOG and Steam copies of Wing Commander: Privateer on its own. If it can't, point it at the folder.

  4. Install and play

The first install downloads about 3.4 GB. After that, updates fetch only the files that changed, check every byte, and never touch your saves.

Questions

Why do I need the original game?

Privateer Reimagined builds on Origin's 1993 game, including its music and voices. Owning the original is how we respect that. It's on GOG and Steam if you don't have it.

How big are updates?

Usually a few megabytes. Each release is a signed list of files, and the launcher only downloads the ones that changed. It can also repair a damaged install.

Is the launcher safe to run?

Every file the launcher installs is checked against a list signed by the project, so it won't install anything that was tampered with on the way. The installer itself isn't code-signed yet, which is why Windows warns you. Compare its SHA-256 above if you'd like to check it.

Is this an official EA or Origin product?

No. It's a non-commercial fan project and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts.
